Who we are
We bring together the vibrant pre-existing communities of a university and a school to form a new relationship where all parties learn and grow together. Stepping out of our comfort zones and trying something new together is incredibly powerful, formative and effective. Our current ecosystem involves Wiltshire-based primary schools, The University of Bristol, Alice Poppleton (Director) and Frances Leith (Producer). Our Goals Schools To provide primary school children in rural areas with access to live music-making and performance To support and encourage teachers to engage with music as a learning tool to deliver the core curriculum creatively To introduce school children to university students, giving them an insight into their potential academic and creative futures University To provide the university students with vocational skills and work experience of taking part in a grass roots initiative To bring community music into the academic programme and illuminate the diverse nature of the music industry To foster a lasting connection with and investment in community music and its value for those wishing to pursue careers in related or unrelated industries Our Results 100% of the children said:

You guys inspire me to go to university! I am more confident and have more faith in myself. We like music more now! The songs we made got stuck in my head for days! Teachers said I feel more confident in leading certain aspects of music such as composition. I feel more confident in the ability of the children in my class. 4th Year university student said I would strongly recommend to any musician/music student to become involved with the project as there are so many things to be gained from it. It enhances your teaching and leadership skills, it pushes your creativity and also your ability to work in a team. Furthermore, it’s so rewarding to see the positive impact that you have on the children, and to work amongst positive, supportive and uplifting people. Professor Sarah Hibberd (Stanley Hugh Badock Chair of Music) said What a wonderful project it has been, even in the teeth of a pandemic! I know it is about providing opportunities for the school children, but the impact on our students has been just as impressive. It really has been a privilege for us to be part of this, to be involved in opening up the world of music to young children and thinking about their (musical) futures. This gives us all hope, and the chance to get involved at the earliest stages of a child's musical life. Get in touch We would love to connect with you.
